5 Questions to Help You Plan the Best Time to Start on Valentine Projects for your Crochet Business?

Well it depends, it will be different for each business owner. Typically it’s best to at least to start in December. Don’t fret if you didn’t start then, its entirely possible that you still have plenty of time. However you really need to ask yourself a few questions to help determine the best time for you to start.

1. Where you are planning to sell – markets, online, etc…

If you will be selling online you can build up an inventory of premade items. You can opt to list items only as *made to order*. Made to order, means you will list your items & once you get an order then you will make the items.

If it will be at markets or in a retail space then you will need an inventory of items ready to sell.

2. How fast you crochet

If you crochet super fast then maybe you won’t have to start as early as someone who crochets at a different pace. Which leads us right into the next question.

3. If your makes are small quick items or big projects

If your makes are typically large projects that take longer then you would need to start sooner than later. If you make more small quick projects then maybe you won’t need as much time.

4. Whether you work better under pressure or you like to take your time

Let’s be honest many of us, (me included) wait until the last minute even when we knew we should have started ahead of time. It’s not always a completely bad thing though. Working under pressure can actually be most productive for some people.

5. How much inventory you want to have on hand & if any

You may not need any inventory on hand if you will be listing online. You can list (made to order) then you can make it as the orders come in. Even online though for seasonal & holiday items you will need to create one in each color since you will need to photograph them for the listings.

If you are taking your items to a market then you will need to build up an inventory.

After considering these questions you will be able to better determine the best time to start on seasonal or holiday items. If you crochet as a therapy or to unwind (see what I did there) planning ahead can help make sure that you continue to enjoy the journey & avoid burnout.

Hope this helps!
