Finding More Time To Crochet

I just want to crochet all day, don’t you? Let’s face it, its hard to find time to crochet. It can be especially hard to find the time to do anything you love. I think that’s because we enjoy it (so much) we tend to push it to the back burner. We often feel guilty for spending time on something we love. I know I do. I have learned though that crochet is part of my self care. It’s part of the few things I do to keep my cup filled. I am a better wife, mom & friend if I make sure that I get into God’s Word, have my Happy Juice & Crochet everyday.

There was a time when I would go weeks & even months without crocheting. I am a homeschooling mom so I’m home all day most days. I know what you must be thinking. I have way more time to crochet than someone who works outside the home full time. I do have a choice in how my day goes, most days & no boss & am not tied to a phone or desk. However I do have children that need me all day everyday. As well as all the things that come with taking care of a home. Plus running several businesses from home. I definitely don’t have extra time on my hands. So whether you work full time or are at home. I think we can all agree that we would all love to find more time to crochet everyday!

I didn’t like going weeks or months without crocheting so I made a few changes to help ensure that I crochet everyday. If you work full time then be sure & check out my blog post on crochet on the go. I would implement this for breaks or during lunch if possible.

Tips To Crochet More

Keep your project at the ready – I try to always have a project going that I don’t have to think about. Something I can just pick up crochet without looking at the pattern. This project usually stays in a basket by the couch (my favorite place to crochet). So that anytime I sit down to rest or get a minute I can just pick it up & work a few rows.

Put crochet on the list – Yes I mean your To Do List. I have a list each day of all the things I need to accomplish. I started adding crochet to this list. If you place crochet just as important as laundry or homeschooling you are less likely to put it off. If you keep treating it like something you are only privileged to do when you entire list is checked off. You may never get to it. This is exactly what was happening to me when I was not crocheting for weeks or months. I was only allowing myself to enjoy something if my entire list was checked off. We all know that never happens. Hence why I wasn’t crocheting.

Stop the Scroll – I’m sure we could all benefit from less social media. I know, most of us don’t want to think about that. However, just think of the projects you could finish with yarn & hook in hand instead of a phone.

Implement an evening family read aloud time – I know you must me thinking! Heather how could having a reading time help me have more time to crochet? We use to do this anyway when the kids were younger. We pick a book to read aloud like Box Car Children & the Bible. My husband reads from both each night. While he reads some kids will play Legos or draw. While he is reading I will crochet. I listen better when I’m doing something with my hands anyway. There are so many benefits to this. It brings everyone together for some family time. They are listening to a read aloud, (tons of benefits.) I get some more time to crochet. This is usually a relaxing time for everyone to unwind before bed.

Declutter your home – Yes I said declutter & yes I’m aware that takes time too. I have found that the less stuff I have. The less time I waste moving it from place to place or organizing it or even less time mentally trying to figure out where to put it. You can spend just 5-15 minutes a day decluttering. In the long run you will have more time to crochet because you can greatly reduce the amount of stuff & the time you spend dealing with it from day to day.

I’m sure you have are already staying up late to crochet or have tried getting up earlier. Hopefully I gave you some better ideas than not getting enough sleep. I have stayed up late many times. Its not the best in the long run since its not good for you. Staying up to late over & over can interfere with your mental health. Isn’t that part of the reason we crochet anyway?
